Game Pitch Night 2

Presentation

Don Daglow took the stage to talk about going indie.
He condensed his presentation into 10 questions:

  1. What made you interested?
He insisted we write answers — writing creates commitment.

  2. What sentence describes your game?
Imagine a noisy room with limited attention; you need a strong hook.

  3. What is the largest risk?
Identify what worries you most and plan for it.

  4. How do you organize your work?
Agile or otherwise, you must have structure and pressure to move forward.

  5. How much money should the game make to be considered successful?
Define success monetarily — which leads to…

  6. How much money do you have?
He described three kinds of cash:
    • Cash
    • Cash In Bank
    • Cash In Bank No One Can Take Back (IRS surprise fund shielding…)
And a forbidden fourth: Cash Next Tuesday — never rely on it.
  7. How would you feel if everyone said your game sucked?
You must handle criticism. The work is a projection, not you.
Making a game is a social contract.

  8. If the game made no cash, what would you do?
Be pragmatic. Have a backup plan.

  9. What would you do if money was not a problem?
Focus your passion. You can’t chase everything.

  10. What project do you remember fondly?
This is your guiding light — your emotional compass.

Game Pitches

  1. Zen Blocks

  2. VR Jetpack (again)
Always set your rig up before the presentation.

  3. Blue Yonder Falls
VR game based on childhood toys.

  4. How I Roll
Procedural art game made in Dart using a custom engine called Screech.
